Saturday 12th December Cyclists Carol Service 11am

This Saturday at 11am, we are holding our Cyclists Carol Service in our churchyard. It will be a very short 15min service, outdoors and socially distanced, with bikes in hand, led by Rev’d Tim, our very own cycling vicar. Our friends at Andover Wheelers are riding in to join us, and all are welcome to come on your bikes too, even if it’s just from round the corner! We look forward to worshipping then! 🚴🏼‍♂️🚴🏼🚴‍♀️

Stained Glass Window Update

Here is the latest process our glass is being put through – masking. Revd Sophie Hacker, the artist making the window says, “I know it looks messy but this is such fun! Using the bitumen to make the masks for when [the glass] goes in the hydrofluoric acid. It’ll give the most wonderful textures and subtle colours.”
Isn’t it fascinating? Thanks, Sophie, for letting us see your process of making.

Thank you so very much to those who have already used our online payment system to donate towards the window project! If you would like to donate it is straightforward at this link to our website: https://stjamesludgershall.com/donations/

An Update re Finances

Following our Annual Church Meeting last month we can report that St James Church will be paying the Parish Share in full this year, although we’ll have to use £3,500 (roughly one third) of our reserves in order to do so.

Thank you to everyone who supports our church, not only financially, but in time, work, serving and praying. Some folk have understandably been financially effected by the ongoing pandemic, and have not been able to give – if that’s you, please don’t worry. If you are among the people who have generously decided to increase your giving to help make up some of the shortfall, thank you.

The decision to pay Parish Share is important because Parish Share is what the Diocese use to pay our clergy their wages. This link provides more information from the Diocese about how the money is used: https://www.salisbury.anglican.org/resources-library/whos-who/contacts/comms-team/working-together/budget-2021-at-a-glance-nov-2020

Sunday 11th October

The churchyard service will be a Service if the Word. In the evening, we have Common Worship Evening Prayer at 4pm and Holy Communion at 6pm. We hope you will be able to join us at any of those to praise God and pray together.

As ever, for the outdoor services, please come equipped with a folding chair/picnic blanket, a waterproof/brolly if you can, and for the radio/fb broadcast you can find a service sheet at this link so you can follow along with the singing at home: https://stjamesludgershall.com/service-sheets/

Ride & Stride Saturday 12th September

🚴🏼‍♂️🚴🏼🚴‍♀️🥾🥾🥾 It’s time for Ride and Stride, this Saturday 12th September! 🥾🥾🥾🚴‍♀️🚴🏼🚴🏼‍♂️

Each year, to raise money for the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, we participate in a sponsored walk or cycle ride, or even a horse ride, to another local church. This year we are walking this year from St James to St Andrews in Collingbourne Ducis on Saturday 12 September starting at 10am at St James’ lychgate, with a stop at Gastro Nicks for a break and refreshments. Come and join us! A walk and a natter in the beautiful countryside – what could be lovelier than that?

There’s transport back for those who wish to use it, two per car and home with the window open!

The money we raise is split 50% to the Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust, who helped us last year with a grant of £1000 towards the restoration of our church clock face, and the other 50% to the ministry of St James’ Church. If you would like to sponsor our walkers, please ring Julie Walker on 07889503132,
or you can give electronically at this link: https://pay.collctiv.com/ride-and-stride-13592.
See you Saturday! 🥾🥾🥾
